how to give
gift opportunities
1. Specific Program Support - Donors can select specific League programs to support that are of interest to them. Each program has its own budget that can be generated upon request to assist prospective donors in making their decisions. Program support opportunities are available for the following League programs.
Adaptive Equipment Services
Agrability Program
Braille Production
Community Center Facilities
DeafLink
Independent Living Skills Training
Information & Referral Service
Orientation & Mobility Training
Peer Support & Advocacy
Services for Older Citizens who are Blind or Visually Impaired
Volunteer Services
Youth Services
2. Capital Equipment Acquisition - Each year there are a number of large equipment needs that must be addressed in order to support the services that we provide (such as vehicles that are used in the provision of direct service, copy machines, etc.). These purchases offer a great way for us to publicize and recognize donors who have an interest in this area.
3. Event Sponsorship Opportunities - Individuals or corporations can sponsor League events, such as the League's annual South Side Block Party that promotes south side neighborhoods, businesses and non-profit organizations.
4. Service Expansion Endowment - The League has created an endowment fund that is designed to generate annual revenue in order to support new as well as current programs and services. This fund is invested primarily in revenue generating instruments through professional investment managers within policy parameters established by the League=s Board of Directors.
5. Long Term Growth Endowment - This endowment fund has been established to ensure solvency of the League for generations to come. Revenue and earnings from the fund are reinvested each year to achieve a goal of long term growth. This fund is invested primarily in equities through professional investment managers within policy parameters established by the League=s Board of Directors.
6. Capital Improvement Reserve Fund - A reserve fund has been established by the League to assist the agency in its constant efforts to upgrade computer and office technology. These technologies are instrumental to the League in providing high quality services. They also enable the League to operate efficiently, and maintain low administrative and fund raising costs.
7. Building Maintenance Reserve Fund - The League owns its facility after completing a successful 1.9 million dollar Facility Renovation & Service Expansion campaign in 2002. This fund has been established to pay for future major maintenance costs that could otherwise deplete resources needed to fund ongoing programs and services.
8. Agency Endowment Funds (Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne) - The League has two agency endowments that were established by donors at the Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne. Donor gifts become the property of the community foundation. They are responsible for establishing investment policies and securing investment managers. Earnings are provided to the League each year after the subtraction of an administrative fee. Revenues from these funds are typically used to supplement the League=s general operating fund.
9. General Operating Fund - Donors can make gifts of cash, stock, bonds or property to the League for support of its annual operating budget. Gifts that are not specifically designated by the donor to support specific programs, agency funds or endowments are generally applied to this category unless redirected by the League=s Board of Directors.
10. United Way of Allen County - The League is a member agency of United Way. As such, individuals who give to United Way can request a donor designation form from United Way that allows them to direct their gift to the League.
11. Charitable Gift Annuity - In general, individuals or couples can establish a life long, guaranteed stream of income for themselves by making a donation of $5,000 or more through the League=s Charitable Gift Annuity program. The amount of annual income generated is based on a pre-established, fixed interest rate that is identified in a contract between the donor and the League. Donors can also benefit financially through tax deductions that can be claimed on the initial donation.
